rikka Ca-Mg-KH is a test kit for fast and accurate measurement of calcium, magnesium and carbonate hardness in marine water.Always hold the reagent bottle upright. Make sure the dropper tip is dry before testing. Ignoring these precautions will give an inaccurate result.Measuring the sum of Mg2+ + Ca2+1. Rinse the test vial several times with the water to be tested.2. Fill the test vial with 5 ml of the water to be tested.3. Add the “Mg-Ca” reagent drop by drop, counting the drops, until the colour changes from red to olive green.4. Write down the number of drops (N1).Measuring Ca2+1. Rinse the test vial several times with the water to be tested.2. Fill the test vial with 5 ml of the water to be tested.3. Add 5 drops of reagent “Ca-1” and mix vigorously. Wait 1 minute. Any sediment that forms does not affect the result.4. Add one level spoonful of “Ca-2” powder and shake the sample vigorously until it turns an even pink.5. Add reagent “Ca-3” drop by drop, counting the drops. Mix after each drop until the colour changes from pink to blue (via an intermediate violet). The test is complete when the blue colour stays unchanged for 30 seconds.6. Write down the number of drops (N2).Measuring carbonate hardness1. Rinse the test vial several times with the water to be tested.2. Fill the test vial with 5 ml of the water to be tested.3. Add the “KH” reagent drop by drop, counting the drops, until the colour changes from blue to raspberry red.4. One drop of “KH” reagent equals 0.3 dKH.Calculating Mg2+ in marine water (mg/l):[Mg2+] = 120·N1-12·N2Calculating Ca2+ in marine water (mg/l):[Ca2+] =20·N2Example: N1=13, N2=21.[Mg2+] = 120·13-12·21= 1308 (mg/l)[Ca2+] =20·21 =420 (mg/l)So the tested marine water contains 1308 mg/l Mg2+ and 420 mg/l Ca2+.Wash the test vial thoroughly right after the test.Do not let the reagents or tested water get into the aquarium!
